Yoga Yoga…Yoga!

I have only tried Yoga, maybe five times in my life!  I have friends who are addicted to Yoga.  They go at least 2-3 times a week and they tell me that they greatly benefit from what Yoga has to offer.  So, I decided before I write off this very popular form of exercise, I would do some research of my own and find out what makes it so popular!

1. Meditation, I found is good for the mind.  It puts you into a state of relaxation and deeper thinking.

2. I also discovered that there are different types of Yoga.  At my last count, I had read about 15!

3. Yoga can improve your overall health and mental well-being.  It’s good for flexibility, strenght and muscle tone.

4. There are different poses, each one done with precision and with a rest between each one.

5.  And there are two categories of Yoga. Flow and Non-Flow.  Flow raises your heart-rate and non-flow does not.  I think I prefer the non-flow!

When choosing where to go to a Yoga class, usually its word of mouth from a friend. Or, there are many directories out there, it would be easy to find somewhere in your area.

I may give Yoga another go.  What’t the worst that could happen? I could get healthy!  Hmm, sounds good to me!

Dancing the Night Away…

People will always tell you that dancing is a great way to get exercise. I  agree it’s a whole body workout and it’s an excellent way to have a great time.  Recently I’ve been taking dance classes as my form of personal fitness. I’ve always loved dancing and when I take my dance classes I’m “hitting two birds with one stone,” I get to have fun and exercise. It doesn’t even feel like exercise while I’m dancing…but let me tell you afterward I definitely feel that I’ve been “working it.”

I’ve been going to the Dancing Around Studio to learn “couples dancing.” Here I can learn those great ballroom dances I’ve always seen on So You Think You Can Dance!  Also it doesn’t matter what level you are, they are always willing to work with you and if you don’t get a step the first time all you have to do is ask.

You can check out Dancing Around Studio, it’s located off of 3960 South Pine Ave., call 352-690-6637 for more information on pricing and classes.

A fusion of flavors with Sky Asian Fusion

This restaurant has a true mix of flavors, from Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and China you’re sure to taste them all. Sky Asian Fusion has blended all these cultures and techniques beautifully.

Some of my personal favorites from Sky Asian Fusion is the Mongolian Beef and the Filipino pancit (lo mein). The food is mixed so well and they bring in their own techniques to make the food special.

Hands in the Sand!

Filed under Around Town, Go Green

This Saturday, June 26 Hands Across the Sands will be at it again! In hopes to stop dependence on fossil fuels, this organization is once again joining hands across the nation’s beaches, parks and cities to stop the dangers of offshore oil drilling.

Hands Across the Sands was founded back in October of 2009. Dan Rauschkolb the founder organized a statewide event on February 13, 2010. All over Florida people gathered to send a message to their legislators and Governor Crist that they did not want the offshore drilling bans lifted in Florida waters. This Saturday it’s happening again but not only in Florida, all over the nation and the world!

Hands Across The Sand’s mission is to change our engery policy away from its dependence on fossil fuels and into the light of clean energy. The aim is to convince our leaders to abandon expanded offshore oil drilling and adopt policies that encourage clean and renewable energy resources.

HATSThis weekend beaches in Orlando are participating, so you can join hands!

A day at the Races!

Spend this weekend at the Races for Memorial Day!

Ocala Speedway will kick it off on Friday night with four exciting divisions. The Colortyme Modifieds will headline the show, and the Sportsman Division will be back in action. Fans can also expect action packed racing from the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, and also the fast and furious Gladiator cars.

Living in Ocala and at the Estates at Heathbrook allows us to have the quiet of a suburb but we’re also so close to everything. Ocala Speedway is right off I-75 and tonight the gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the races will begin at 8:00 p.m.! The first race that I went on was definitely memorable! The atmosphere is relaxed and people are focused on the races as soon as they start!
